Making Phone Calls at the University of Bamberg

Phone System (UCware Solution)

The phone system works with both softphones called UCC Client and hardware phones such as the Snom D385 and Unify OpenStage SIP.
The use of softphones is the standard solution at the University of Bamberg; the delivery and installation of hardware phones will be limited to exceptional cases, such as for administrative offices and department heads.

Additional information about the phone system and how to set up your softphone or hardware phone is available on the Phone System (UCware) page.

Technical Information

At the University of Bamberg, we make phone calls using telephone systems that are Voice over IP-based solutions. Call data is transmitted via the university network using the IP protocol. This means that the phones use the same lines as, for example, your PC, laptop, or network printer.

Please note: The hardware phone and all network components connected between it and the system (e.g., mini-switches) must be powered. The softphone for the new phone system also works on a computer running on battery power. The softphone requires access to the university network (via a VPN connection, if necessary).

Do you have any questions?

Phone Request in IAM-Portal: to request a phone for a workstation, to make calls using a PIN, and much more.
If a new phone is requested, it will be compatible with the new phone system.
