International Student Exchange

For years, exchange programmes, special degree programmes and inter-university partnerships have attracted foreign students to Bamberg and have drawn students from Bamberg out into the world. Accordingly, a third of our own student body take advantage of opportunities to spend one or two semesters abroad.

The International Office is the central contact point for all international students in Bamberg, and for all students from Bamberg who aspire to study abroad.

Internationalisation of teacher education (BaTEG)

One of 38 pilot projects in Germany funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) since 2019, the BaTEG (Bamberg Teacher Education for a Global World) programme aims at internationalising teacher education in order to prepare our future teachers for cultural diversity in classrooms and teaching in a globalised world. Our objectives include, among others, creating exchange programmes that specialise in teacher education and offering a range of opportunities for internationsalisation at home. Thus, we support students in planning their stay abroad, offer grants, and organise international and/or intercultural events.

International Knowledge Transfer

Visiting professorships enable an extensive transfer of models and knowledge to Bamberg. The University's Welcome Center has been providing support for these foreign scholars since its establishment in 2010.

Scholars from Bamberg who are preparing for a stay abroad will also find a wealth of information and assistance in the Welcome Center.

Honours for International Research

Many internationally distinguished scholars, including researchers who have received Leibniz or Humboldt awards, the European Research Council Grant and Marie Curie Grants, are guests at the University of Bamberg.

The Johann-von-Spix professorship is held by international visiting professors for the duration of their stay. The professorship is financed with special funds provided by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Study Internationally

There are many foreign students at the University of Bamberg.

We offer several international degree programmes precisely for these students.

International Week

Every summer at the beginning of July, the University of Bamberg organises an International Week.

Instructors, students, student groups and associations, and university institutes and departments prepare a diverse programme for interested participants from both the university and the general public. The programme comprises informational, cultural and study-related events with various international themes and focus areas.
