Frequently Asked Questions About CampusPrint
What are the costs involved?
You can find a list of prices on the page
Copying and Printing at the University of Bamberg.
The printing fees are the same as the photocopying fees.
If you select the Auto Color option in the print settings, the price for color pages will be charged only for pages that actually contain color content. Pages in grayscale or two-color are recognized as black-and-white and billed accordingly.
If you print using the Grayscale or 2-color option, all pages will be billed at the black-and-white rates for DIN A4/A3 copies and printouts.
Please note that it is technically impossible to accurately predict printing costs when using the Auto Color option. Therefore, the card must always be loaded with the maximum amount in order to pick up the corresponding print job.
With the Auto Color option, the system initially assumes that all pages in your print job are color pages. The maximum amount is calculated as follows:
Maximum print cost = number of pages * cost per color page.
However, only the actual price will be deducted at the end of the printing process!
Actual printing costs = number of black-and-white pages * cost per black-and-white page + number of color pages * cost per color page = total.
There is no charge for scanning.
However, there must be a minimum balance of €0.80 on the card!
How are printing costs billed?
For university employees, printing costs can either be charged directly to a cost center associated with a chip card or deducted from the chip card’s electronic wallet.
The following options are available at the smart card terminal:
- (F1) Business Copying & Scanning (Billing via Cost Center)
- (F2) Personal Copying & Scanning (Payment via electronic wallet)
- (F3) Print for Business Purposes (Billing via Cost Center)
- (F4) Print for personal use (payment via electronic wallet)
For students, the amount is always deducted from their wallet.
Once the print job has been submitted to the campusprint server, the server performs a cost analysis. During this process, the print job file is checked for the number of pages, page sizes used, and color properties. Based on this information, the estimated printing costs are then calculated. The print properties and the number of pages are displayed at campusprint.uni-bamberg.de.
When the print job is started on the copier, the maximum print cost is first deducted from the smart card. The smart card is then locked.
The copier reports the number and format of the pages actually printed (actual printing costs) back to the campusprint server. The campusprint server then credits the difference to the chip card and only then releases the chip card.
Note:
In the event of a malfunction (paper jam, empty paper tray, interruption of the data network connection, power outage, equipment failure, etc.), the costs may differ from the number of pages analyzed (and already charged to the chip card).

Other Information
You must configure all print settings—including the settings for black-and-white/color printing and single-sided/duplex printing—on your PC before sending the print job. Print jobs submitted to campusprint cannot be modified once they are ready for pickup. This means there is no way to change the print settings at the copier.
You can customize the default settings of your campusprint printer to match how you plan to use the printer most often.
When using campusprint, you have the option to reprint a print job that has already been retrieved. To do this, reactivate the print job by clicking the asterisk next to the respective print job under the Print Jobs service via the web interface at campusprint.uni-bamberg.de. A reprint can be repeated as often as you like within the 5-day period.
