Requesting Subdomains

To operate your own or rented servers, you must request your own subdomains from the IT Service. A subdomain corresponds to an entry on the DNS server that points to a specific IP address. You can request subdomains in the format handle.uni-bamberg.de or xxx.handle.uni-bamberg.de, where xxx stands for a string of characters permitted in domain names, which may be separated by periods.

Only individuals who are responsible for an abbreviation listed in the handle directory are eligible to apply.

The use of a subdomain in an institution’s email addresses is determined by a decision of the university administration.
