Server Operator

Traffic from the Internet to the university network (outbound)

Servers that are not under the IT Service's purview can be made accessible from the Internet if necessary.

There are three “security levels” for account activation:

  • Access enabled for all ports.
  • Access to ports 21, 22, 80, and 443 (FTP, SSH, web server) has been enabled.
  • Access enabled for ports 80 and 443 (WWW server).

It is also possible to enable access for all traffic from the university network to the Internet.

Server Activation Forms and Procedures

Here you will find the forms, where you can enter the IP addresses of servers that should be accessible from anywhere on the Internet or that need to communicate with the Internet.

However, servers cannot be added “on demand”!

Due to the associated security risk, authorization always requires the signature of the facility director.

Please understand that, due to the wide variety of ports required by some servers for Internet access, we are unable to open ports individually for each server. We strongly recommend that all server operators take steps to secure their servers against unauthorized access using appropriate mechanisms.
