Proxy-Server

The proxy server relays HTTP and FTP requests between the Internet and a PC on the internal network. For the PC on the internal network, the proxy is the server that serves it. For a server on the Internet, the proxy acts like a PC that requests information. On the Internet, therefore, only the proxy server is ever visible. The requesting PC on the university network is thus protected from the Internet.

At the same time, the proxy server reduces the university's data traffic with the Internet, since it can immediately deliver content (such as web pages) that a computer has already requested to another user without having to retrieve the data from the Internet again.
