Wi-Fi at the University of Bamberg
In nearly all buildings at the University of Bamberg, you can connect to the university’s network using your own smartphone, tablet, or laptop via Wi-Fi (eduroam). This allows you to access the university’s data services as well as the global Internet.
For this purpose, the eduroam Wi-Fi network is made available to them.
Guests can also use the Wi-Fi at the various locations; the @BayernWLAN network is provided for this purpose. While this does not allow you to access the university's data network, you can use the global Internet.
Basic Information About eduroam
eduroam is the name of the wireless access to the University of Bamberg's data network and the Internet (= Wi-Fi connection).
eduroam also provides access to the academic network for visiting researchers, students, and staff from other universities or research institutions participating in the global roaming program.
Members of the University of Bamberg who are visiting a university or research institution participating in the roaming program can use the Wi-Fi networks there to access the Internet. Conversely, members of these institutions can connect to the Internet at the University of Bamberg using the login credentials provided by their home institution.
- easyroam enables secure configuration of eduroam access based on EAP-TLS. With this authentication method, only client/user certificates issued by the DFN Association are used for login.
- As of April 1, 2025, logging into the eduroam Wi-Fi network is only permitted using certificates from the DFN Association’s easyroam service.
When you install eduroam, personal security certificates are generated. These are valid for two years. After two years, based on current information, you will
- On Windows, iOS/iPadOS, and Android, you will be prompted to log in again. During this process, new certificates are generated and installed.
- On macOS and Linux, you will no longer have a Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, you will receive no information about this. Only the timing will indicate what has happened. Please follow the installation instructions in the guide below.
Wi-Fi Locations
Many lecture halls, seminar rooms, and key common areas at the University of Bamberg’s campuses are equipped with Wi-Fi access points. As an alternative to Wi-Fi, wired internet connections for laptops are available at some locations and in offices.

Venue for conferences, etc.
To provide Internet access to external participants attending events at the University of Bamberg (e.g., conferences, congresses, etc.), the IT Service sets up special access points where they can log in using an access key issued for this purpose.
Wi-Fi Access for Guests
As a guest, you can enjoy unlimited internet access via the Free State of Bavaria's @BayernWLAN.
