The course “AI in Academic Research” covers the following topics:
- How generative AI models work and their technical foundations
- Ethical issues surrounding the use of AI
- Bias and distortion of information and data by AI models
- Fundamentals of prompting
- The use of AI in academic research and good academic practice when working with AI

Dates and registration
This course is designed as an e-learning course on the Virtual Campus and includes learning materials and a test. Log in to the Virtual Campus using your ba number and enroll in the course “KI im wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten”.
Certificate of Participation
To receive a certificate, you must successfully complete the final test. This is also a prerequisite for taking part in the follow-up workshops.

AI workshops in the winter term 2026/27 (All workshops will be held in German.)

We turn to LLMs for advice on all sorts of problems, often unconsciously developing a parasocial relationship with the chatbot in the process. We perceive the responses as helpful, empathetic and validating, and we rarely question how the AI simulates closeness or consider the potential consequences. In this workshop, we will use practical examples to discuss how we can develop a critical distance from AI output.
