The Deans' List

Support for outstanding students at the Faculty of WIAI

By establishing The Deans’ List, the WIAI Faculty aims to recognise outstanding students and provide them with targeted support. One of the reasons for this is the statutory mandate under the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG) to support exceptional talent through specialised development opportunities. Whilst existing support schemes – such as the Deutschlandstipendium – are organised centrally, the Faculty has established The Deans’ List as its own, faculty-based format for supporting gifted students.

For this reason, The Deans’ List was established at the start of the 2026 summer semester; it operates under the patronage of the faculty management and comprises the top two per cent of the faculty’s highest-achieving students from the second semester onwards. The criteria for inclusion on The Deans’ List are above-average academic performance and rapid progress in studies.
This method of supporting high-achieving students is a successful tool in the Anglo-Saxon world and is also widespread in Germany.

How do you get onto the Dean’s List?

It is neither possible nor necessary to apply. Selection takes place once a year in September, based on examination results provided by the examination boards in conjunction with the Examinations Office. The decision is made by the Faculty Management. Selected students will be contacted personally by the Dean.

Students from all Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes within the faculty (with the exception of VAWi) are considered from the second semester onwards. Among these students, the decision is based on the grade point average. To ensure that all degree programmes are represented, the approximately 40 places are allocated proportionally according to student numbers to the following groups: B.Sc. in Information Systems and IISM; B.Sc. in Applied Computer Science and AI & Data Science; B.Sc. Computer Science; M.Sc. Information Systems and IISM; M.Sc. Applied Computer Science, Computing in the Humanities and Interaction Research and Design; M.Sc. International Software Systems Science.

In addition, each member of the Faculty Management Team may nominate one student.
Students on this list will benefit from regular exclusive events and will receive a certificate at the end of their time on the list.

A place on the Dean’s List comes with the expectation of active and reliable participation. The faculty’s aim is to foster a culture of mutual accountability based on commitment, respect and trust.
