Programme Regulations

The formal frame of study, specifying degree and exam regulations as well as the prescribed course programme for the masters course in International Software Systems Science is laid down in the following documents:

This document describes the general regulation as they apply to all the degree programmes at the WIAI Faculty.

This document describes the particular regulations pertaining to the masters degree programme in International Software Systems Science.
In appendix 1(A) of this document you find information on which modules fall within which of the module groups A1-A5 and appendix 1(B) specifies which area of specialisation S1-S4 each module in A1 and A2 belongs to.

Module Handbooks and Module Tables

In order to find out which module offerings are available in the WIAI Faculty for your degree course you can consult the module handbook.

The module handbook lists all course modules offered within the degree programme and gives detailed description of the contents, ECTS credit volume, mode of delivery, form of assessment etc. The module handbook also contains the module tables. These tell you which modules you may take (elective units) or must take (mandatory units) to fulfil your study requirements in a particular module group A1-A5.

The module handbook is currently updated every academic year. Additional information and occasionally also short-notice announcements of new course offerings can be found at the web pages of the degree examination board.

However, note that these study plans are examples only. You may and should make your own personal choice of electives according to your study and specialisation interests.

Important note: In case of doubt please contact the degree programme advisor (Fachstudienberater) or the degree programme representative (Studiengangsbeauftragter) at the beginning of your first semester. They will help you setting up your own personalised study plan in accordance with the programme examination regulations.

Once you have laid down your study plan you can get it approved by the degree examination board (Prüfungsausschuss) using a formal Learning Agreement.

Learning Agreements

In the master‘s programme International Software Systems Science you may exercise considerable freedom as to which specific study path to take. There are many decisions you can make to personalise your studies. You can select your own electives within each of the module groups A1 and A2, determine the order in which you attend the classes and decide in module group A5 whether you want to study abroad or conduct an internship. If you study abroad you will have to select suitable modules at the partner university. If you go on an internship you must ensure that it has sufficient international context and the work you do has sufficient relevance for Software Systems Science.

Learning agreements are essential here. These are formal written agreements between you and the degree examining board on the recognition of ECTS credit points that you intend to acquire as part of your degree studies. Learning agreements must be submitted before the beginning of the exam registration period.

In certain individual cases it is permitted that you participate in undergraduate level modules from Software Systems Science. This is the case when

these modules provide the prerequisite background for master's level modules in module group A1 or A2
you have not already covered these topics in your qualifying bachelor's degree

To participate in bachelor’s courses, you also have to submit a learning agreement before the exam registration period (within the first 3 weeks of the semester).

The process is the following:

fill in a learning agreement (link "Important Documents" in VC course “M.Sc. International Software Systems Science)
submit the form to the Helpdesk (helpdesk.ma-isosysc(at)uni-bamberg.de), add your Bachelor transcript and indicate the module group to which you want to add the course
if approved, in addition, you have to register for the exam regularly through FlexNow within the given time frame of exam registration
