Would you like to achieve your goals successfully through project management? Would you like to carry out and complete your projects effectively, efficiently, and self-confident?In this training, you will learn about project management in general and specifically how to apply it to your dissertation and research projects – from the initial idea and exposé to realization.You will be introduced to a variety of tools that make it easier for you to start, manage, and successfully complete your projects with satisfaction. You will learn how to plan and execute the individual phases of your projects, as well as when and how to select and use different tools to structure and organize your projects.

About the Trainer:

Inhalte:
Wer Forschung an einer Hochschule betreiben will, ist zum überwiegenden Teil auf die Einwerbung von Drittmittel angewiesen. EU, Bund, Länder oder auch Stiftungen sind Drittmittelgeber, an deren Adresse Anträge zu stellen sind. Je nach Fachgebiet oder Projektträger kann die Ablehnungsquote bis zu 80 % betragen. Wie schreiben Forscher:innen also einen wettbewerbsfähigen Antrag in diesem hart umkämpften Markt?
Ablauf:
- Welche Drittmittelquellen kann ich nutzen?
- Wie kann ich aus meiner Idee ein Projekt machen?
- Wie schreibe ich einen Forschungsantrag?
- Welche Vorgaben muss ich beachten?
- Wie muss ich die Antragstellung planen?
Methode:
Im Workshop wechseln sich Phasen der frontal vorgestellten Inhalte mit der aktiven Ver- und Bearbeitung (Kurzreferate, kollegiale Diskussionen, interaktive Gruppenarbeiten) durch die Teilnehmenden ab.
Lernziele:
Im Seminar erhalten die Teilnehmenden eine Einführung in die Grundlagen und Strategien zur Erstellung von Forschungsanträgen, um Drittmittel für die eigene Forschung einzuwerben.
Der Workshop kann genutzt werden, um eine kurze Projektskizze für die kommende DRIVE4Pioneers Ausschreibung zu erarbeiten. Die nächste DRIVE4Pioneers Schreibwerkstatt wird im Sommer 2026 ausgeschrieben und soll im Herbst 2026 starten.

Dr. Andreas Patschger war nach seiner Hochschulausbildung als Ingenieur in verschiedenen Positionen in Unternehmen der Industrie tätig. Andreas Patschger ist seit 2010 Dozent für verschiedene ingenieurwissenschaftliche Fachrichtungen und konzipiert seit 2015 als freiberuflicher Trainer hochschuldidaktische Workshops, Seminare für Promovierende und Strategieworkshops für Unternehmen. Als Innovations- und Netzwerkmanager pflegt er den engen Austausch von und mit Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft.

Short Outline
This online workshop supports postdoctoral researchers in developing key skills needed to lead and contribute to collaborative research projects. Participants will explore communication strategies, conflict resolution, and team leadership in both formal and informal settings. The training also covers effective facilitation of online and in-person meetings, negotiation of diverse interests, and the role of academic networks in successful collaboration. In a networked research environment, strong communication and leadership skills are essential - whether you are officially leading a project or coordinating informally. The workshop aims to provide postdoctoral researchers with tools and strategies needed to manage research collaborations effectively and with confidence. Through hands-on exercises, case studies, and peer exchange, participants will develop a personal toolkit of methods to enhance their involvement in collaborative research projects.
Participants will learn to:
- Apply communication strategies that foster clear, constructive, and inclusive dialogue in diverse teams,
- Use conflict management techniques to identify and resolve tensions in a solution-oriented way,
- Understand and practice team leadership, even without a formal leadership title,
- Facilitate effective meetings, both online and in person,
- Employ negotiation methods to balance different interests and goals within a project,
- Build and maintain academic networks as a foundation for successful collaboration.
Target group:
The workshop is mainly aimed at postdoctoral researchers. In case of any vacant places, it is open to anyone interested.

About the Trainer:
Matteo Garavoglia is Professor of Practice at the Department of International Relations and Research Director at the Centre for China-EU Relations at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He is also Senior Research Associate at the SEESOX Programme at the University of Oxford and Senior Fellow at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI). Previously, he worked at the Brookings Institution (Washington, DC), the Hertie School (Berlin), Johns Hopkins SAIS, Bocconi University (Milan) and Sciences Po (Paris), among others. He was educated at the University of London (BA), Sciences Po Paris (MA) and Freie Universität Berlin (PhD). He has lived in 11 countries on 5 continents and speaks Italian, English, Spanish, French and some German. His provides workshops on the following topics: Preparation for the thesis defence; Team communication & interculturality; Rhetoric & public speaking; Leadership and supervision in academia; Networking and visibility; Introduction to life and academia in Germany; Successful third-party funding applications; Academic writing; Lateral leadership & collaboration; Diversity and inclusion.
