Admission

The Double Degree Programme always begins in the winter terms. Students apply at the university where they want to start the Double Degree Programme. The admission procedures follow the common rules of the regular single degree programmes. At the University of Bamberg, students apply for the regular "M.A. Soziologie", at the University of Trento, students apply for the "M.A. Sociology and Social Research". For the Double Degree Programme there are however additional admission criteria.

Admission Requirements M.A. Sociology in Bamberg

Applicants have to:

  • satisfy the admission criteria of the "M.A. Soziologie" at the University of Bamberg, i.e.
    • hold a higher education degree with a minimum of 30 ECTS accumulated in Sociology (incl. 10 ECTS in Sociological Theory and 10 ECTS in Methods of Empirical Social Research)
    • with a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the German grading scale or equivalent
  • satisfy the admission criteria of the "M.A. Sociology and Social Research" at the University of Trento
  • possess sufficient English language skills (level B2 of the Common European Framework)
  • possess German language skills (level C1 of the Common European Framework)

Admission Requirements M.A. Sociology and Social Research in Trento

  • Enroled in a M.A. or M.S. of Sociology
  • a certificate documenting mininum B1-level English language skills (European Framework)
  • with a grade point average of at least 2.36 on the German grading scale or equivalent
  • 60 ECTS at least in two of the following parts (1. Law and Political Science, 2. Sociology, 3. Economics ans Statistics, 4. Antropology, History and pedagogy)

Admission Procedure

During the first year

Students apply for the Double Degree Programme via the online application procedure for the regular "M.A. Soziologie" at the University of Bamberg. To be eligible for the Double Degree Programme students have to select the core area ("Studienschwerpunkt") "Empirical Social Research".

During the application process students can select whether they want to

  • apply for the Double Degree Programme only or
  • apply for both the Double Degree Programme and the regular single degree programmes at University of Bamberg and/or University of Trento in case they won’t be admitted to the Double Degree Programme

The application deadline for the Double Degree Programme is July, 15th.

Applicants have to hand in the following documents:

  • a certified copy of the Bachelor's degree
  • a certified copy of your upper secondary school certificate or higher education entrance qualification
  • a curriculum vitae
  • a certified copy documenting B2-level English language skills (e.g. Abitur certificate)
  • a certified copy documenting B2-level German language skills (or native speaker)
  • an 1-2-pages motivation letter (written in English) describing why one would like to take part in the Double Degree Programme
  • a simple copy of your passport or identity card

Before the second year

Students who have been admitted to the Double Degree Programme will be notified till October 1st. They will be informed about all further steps by the coordinators of the Double Degree Programme.

If there are places left after the first application deadline, there will be a second one at the end of the winter term 17/18. In this case the same documents are needed including a list of all lectures and courses that have been attended in the first year of the M.A. programme.

During the first year

Students apply for the Double Degree Programme while they are in their first term of the regular "M.A. Sociology and Social Research" at the University of Trento.
