At the University of Bamberg, you can study almost all undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs on a part-time basis. Part-time study offers students with children, part-time jobs or with disabilities or chronic illnesses the opportunity to reduce their study load during the semester and extend the duration of their studies. The duration of the Master's programme changes from 4 semesters to 8 semesters in part-time study.

Enrolment in a part-time degree programme is possible without giving reasons. It is also possible to change from a full-time to a part-time degree programme at any semester. The required academic achievements are halved accordingly per semester.

Part-time study is regulated by the regulations for part-time study. You can find more information here.

What is part-time study?

The option to study part-time allows students to respond flexibly to changes in their personal circumstances and adjust their studies accordingly. The content and objectives of part-time study are identical to those of full-time study; however, the number of ECTS credits and thus the workload per semester is reduced. The regulations for part-time study are set out in the Regulations for Part-Time Study in Bachelor's and Master's Programs at Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg. Please note, however, that part-time study is not and cannot be a purely morning, evening, or weekend program. Part-time students attend the same courses as their full-time fellow students – just approximately half as many courses per semester.

Application for part-time study

The Application for Change of Study Mode(323.9 KB) (363.6 KB) can be submitted by post to the Student Office (Studierendenkanzlei) from the start of the re-registration period until the enrollment deadline of the respective semester. Due to the later semester transition, the change of study mode will only become visible in FlexNow at the beginning of the respective semester!
