AI Workshop Prague, September 25-27, 2025
Organisation: Prof. Dr. Marko J. Fuchs (University of Bamberg)
Cooperation partner: Dr. Daniel Novotný (University of České Budějovice)
The project on “The Philosophy of AI,” funded by the German Czech Future Fund (Deutsch-Tschechischer Zukunftsfonds: DTZF) and the Bavarian-Czech Agency for Higher Education (Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur: BTHA), took place from September 25-27, 2025, in Prague. It consisted of 13 presentations (see programme). The basic idea of the project was to launch a series of workshops and establish collaborations to address and critically discuss the profound influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on human society from a philosophical perspective. The remarkable advantages that AI offers in numerous areas are clearly contrasted by a number of problematic challenges, many of which are philosophical in nature and range from ethics and epistemology to ontology and beyond. From the more technical perspective of AI, critical questions arise regarding the limits of AI application, the economic, ecological, and political frameworks necessary for its proper functioning, and the ethical, political, geopolitical, and existential consequences of its use. These questions were discussed by participants such as Joanna Bryson, Emmanuele Lacca, Michael Kenning, and Ondřej Krása. Furthermore, the metaphysical nature of AI itself was explored by, among others, Ermylos Plevrakis, Ehsan Arzroomchilar, László Bernáth, Dániel Golden, and Daniel Novotný in their presentations. The long-term outcome of the workshop series will be a peer-reviewed monograph, scheduled to be published in 2027/2028. The event provided a solid foundation for this through its communicative atmosphere, numerous discussions, and, of course, the presentations. All speakers agreed to revise their contributions for the planned publication, incorporating the results of the upcoming events in which they will participate. With a view to the continuation of the series, the next meeting was scheduled for September 2026. This meeting will be held at ELTE University in Budapest.
