Double Degree "Research Master in Sociology and Demography"

About the Double Degree

The University of Bamberg and the University Pompeu Fabra Barcelona offer a joint Double Degree Master's Programme in Sociology and Demography. In its core, the programme combines demographic aspects with sociological social structure analysis, in particular in the area migration and integration. Students will also obtain a profound knowledge of empirical methods of social sciences. The first student cohort started in the Winter term 2016/17.

Structure

The Double Degree Programme is a two-year programme that combines the contents of two Master programmes: the two-year M.A. programme in "Sociology" (Soziologie) offered by the University of Bamberg and the one-year "Research Master in Sociology and Demography" offered by the University Pompeu Fabra Barcelona. Students spend the first year in Bamberg and the second year in Barcelona. In the end they will obtain Master’s degrees from both programmes.

Contents

The whole programme is offered in English and taught by active and internationally experienced researchers. Students are introduced into state of the art research methods and will get familiar with recent developments in social structure analysis and demography. They will be prepared to apply a broad range of empirical research methods to theoretically driven social research. Besides the thematic focus of the programme students have the opportunity to select additional courses from a broad range of thematic areas. At the end of the programme the Master's thesis will be jointly supervised by supervisors from both universities.
