- If you have any questions about your studies, please contact the Student Advisory Service or the Study Programme Officer. If you have any further questions, you can always contact the university's counselling and support services as well as the Studentenwerk Würzburg.
- The VC course "Studying Political Science in Bamberg" offers a first overview of the study of political science. Here you will find news about events, information worth knowing for first-year students as well as important documents such as the examination regulations and module handbooks. You can easily register yourself for the VC course, a registration key is not required for this.
There could be many reasons for this. Please check the following points before contacting us:
- Are you in the “Exams” section of FlexNow? You do not need the “Events” category in FlexNow for political science modules—you only need to register for the exam; this also serves as your course registration.
- Is your module group already full? This often happens, for example, if you were registered for a seminar in subfield X in the “Advanced” module group during a previous semester but did not pass it. If you now want to register for a seminar in a different subfield Y, you must first apply for what is known as a “subfield change.” To do so, please send a brief email to the Examinations Office. Please request a partial course change, specifying your student ID number, the module you wish to drop, and the module group.
- Have you already registered for this module? You may not register for the same module twice. Therefore, if you are already registered for a module—for example, from the previous semester—but will not be completing it, you must first report your absence for that module. To do so, contact the administrative office of the department offering the module you are already registered for, providing your student ID number.
- Are you not enrolled in the Master’s program in Political Science? If so, you must first prove that you meet the admission requirements. Please contact the instructor of the course for assistance.
If none of these apply, please feel free to contact the administrative office of the department offering the module. Describe your situation (and provide your student ID number).
You can pursue our master’s program in political science with or without a specialized focus.
You choose your specialization indirectly through module registration in FlexNow: If you register for a module from a specific subfield as your specialization module, that becomes your chosen specialization. The administrative offices can easily change this assignment as long as no grade has been entered for the module yet. After that, it is officially considered a change of specialization.
Once you have chosen your major, you may change it once during your studies. To do so, contact the Examinations Office to request a change of focus.
The exam regulations of the semester in which you started your studies always apply to you. For example, if you started in the summer semester of 2022, you will complete your Bachelor's or Master's degree according to the examination regulations of that semester. If the examination regulations change in the course of your studies for a new semester, this will not affect you. If you have any further questions, the Student Advisory Service will be happy to help you.
Yes, provided they are not required modules (this applies, for example, to elective modules in the advanced track). In this case, you may reschedule or change your registration once. To do so, simply send an email to the Registrar’s Office using the contact form.
Since a re-registration is only allowed once, we advise students to first register for the second module as a so-called “voluntary additional subject” and, only if this module is definitively graded higher, to then request the re-registration. If, in hindsight, it turns out that the new module isn't a good fit or that it received a lower rating, a refund is no longer possible.
The module handbook of the current semester always applies. In order to be able to plan your studies sensibly, you should therefore ideally look through the current module handbook at the beginning of each new semester to find out about the individual modules and your (partial) examinations to be taken.
Starting in the summer semester of 2026, nearly all modules in our master’s program will be taught in English to give students the opportunity to participate in international dual master’s programs.
If a course consists exclusively of students whose native language is German, classes may also be held in German by arrangement. This is generally finalized during the first session of the semester.
When you apply, please indicate which department you would like to write your thesis in. Supervision slots will then be allocated centrally based on your preferences. If you plan to write your thesis during the winter semester (summer semester) and attend the accompanying thesis seminar, you must apply for a supervision slot by September 15 (March 15).
