You can and must put together your own class schedule each semester. This gives you a great deal of freedom and flexibility in planning your studies, but it also means you are responsible for doing so yourself. The study plan described below is therefore a recommendation, but not mandatory. If you have any questions or problems, please contact the academic advising office.

Information on Course Options:

  • Ultimately, what matters is that you successfully complete all the modules required for your chosen concentration, as specified under “Structure” or in the examination regulations.
  • Each module is offered either in the summer or winter semester. The specific courses offered in each semester are listed in the table below, sorted by concentration.
  • Core modules and elective modules can be taken in any order, but to a certain extent, it is generally recommended to start with the core modules.
  • Methodology courses should be taken as early as possible. Your choice of methodology courses should be based on your goals and interests. Be sure to note the recommended prior knowledge of methodology required for other modules—especially the research seminars—and, if necessary, consult with the professors in your area of specialization.
  • Research seminars should not be taken during the first semester.
