- organised by Prof. Dr. Susanne Gruß and Prof. Dr. Kai Nonnenmacher
This interdisciplinary lecture series offers an introduction to cultural comparison across a range of academic fields. Scholars from the University of Bamberg’s Departments of Classical Studies, English and American Studies, European Ethnology, Geography, German Studies, Heritage Studies, History of Art, Religious Education, Romance Studies, and Turkish Studies will present different disciplinary approaches to the concept of “culture” and its comparative analysis.
Students will gain insight into how diverse academic traditions conceptualize cultural difference, identity, heritage, communication, and values – both in historical and contemporary contexts. The course aims to foster critical awareness of cultural perspectives and provides an academic framework for reflecting on international experiences. It also serves as an introduction to the different subject areas and specialization at GuK, the faculty of humanities, at Bamberg – so if you are new here and want to gain an overview of what Bamberg has to offer, this lecture is a good starting point.
