Brief Biography
Steffen Popp has been a research assistant at the Chair of Statistics and Econometrics since October 2026, where he is currently pursuing his PhD. His work encompasses research and teaching as well as activities within BACES.
He received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg in 2024, before continuing his studies in the Master’s programme in Survey Statistics and Data Analysis. In his Master’s thesis, he integrated the Tabular Foundation Model (TabPFN) into a mixed-effects framework to account for hierarchical data structures and applied the resulting approach to the estimation of small-area indicators.
During his Master’s studies, he gained further academic and practical experience as a student assistant in statistical consulting at BACES. In parallel, he worked as a working student in the Controlling department at Dr. Pfleger, where he applied machine learning methods to practical business problems.
