Setting up a Wi-Fi connection in Linux (eduroam)

Notes:

  • To access the wireless network of the University of Bamberg, you must have a valid user account (BA number + password).
  • Members of other universities or research institutions that participate in eduroam (DFN roaming) can also use the eduroam network at the University of Bamberg. If the login does not work, please contact your home institution to find out about the specifics of using eduroam.
  • These instructions refer to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. The procedure is the same for other distributions, only the appearance and input commands differ from these instructions.

Set up with easyroam

easyroam Provide files

To download the app, you need an active internet connection, e.g. at the University of Bamberg via the free @BayernWLAN.

Please visit https://www.easyroam.de/, enter Bamberg in the search field and select the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg. You can then log in via Shibboleth with your BA number and the corresponding password.

Figure 1 shows the search mask for selecting the University of Bamberg.

After successfully logging in, click on Linux Manual Configuration for Linux Devices in the lower right-hand corner. A window will open where you can assign a name (e.g., Ubuntu) to the file and then click OK.

Figure 2 shows the easyroam website with a marker for manual Linux setup.

Download the script file easyroam_einrichten.sh(3.8 KB).

Set up easyroam

Open a terminal window and enter the following commands:

cd ~/Downloads/
sudo bash easyroam_einrichten.sh <Dateiname der P12-Datei>

Example: sudo easyroam_einrichten.sh ubuntu.p12

Enter the root user password and press Enter.

Wait until Done is completed. You can then close the terminal window again.

Open the Wi-Fi settings and click on eduroam. You will then be connected automatically.
