What makes an outstanding leader? And do people around the world see leadership the same way? New GLOBE study

🎉 Exciting news! 🎉

The new GLOBE study has just been published in the Journal of World Business. It draws on data from 44,971 managers and professionals across 134 societies. The result is the new GLOBE Integrative Model of Outstanding Leadership, comprising six “light-side” dimensions and two “dark-side” dimensions.

Across the 134 societies, Strategic Visionary and Team-oriented Leadership emerge as the strongest contributors to outstanding leadership, while Self-serving Leadership is the strongest inhibitor. Yet societies differ in how strongly particular leadership behaviours are valued.

The results reinforce an existing message: There is remarkable global agreement on some elements of outstanding leadership – but no single leadership recipe that can be applied everywhere. So, for international organizations: Which parts of our understanding of “good leadership” are truly universal – and which seem self-evident only because we view them through our own cultural lens?
