Email, Calendar, Contacts
The University of Bamberg Computing Centre operates the server systems required for sending and receiving email and provides each student and university employee with a personal email account.
The email server systems for student and staff accounts are separate and based on different software platforms.
Email System for students
As a University of Bamberg student, you automatically receive an email account (firstname.lastname(at)stud.uni-bamberg.de) as part of your enrolment. All study-related correspondence from the university will be sent to this account.
Office 365 is the comprehensive email and collaboration system that is available to students. Among other functions, Office 365 includes
- email with a 50 gigabyte mailbox,
- calendar, address book and task management,
- instant text, voice and video messaging functions,
- document processing and management functions,
- Sharepoint-based group working functions,
- 5 terabyte of storage for online data management (Onedrive, previously Skydrive),
- interfaces for the synchronisation of multiple devices (desktop/laptop computers, smartphones, etc.),
- local installation of Office 365 ProPlus on up to 5 PCs or Macs (minimum system requirement of Windows 7, or Mac OSX version 10.6).
Email management programs (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) as well as web browsers (Internet-Explorer, Firefox, etc.) can be used to access your email account. Various language options for the user interface are available at o365.uni-bamberg.de.
Students who do not have access to Office 365 have an email account on the Computing Centre’s alternative student email system: mailex.uni-bamberg.de.

Email System for Academic, Teaching and Administrative Staff
All academic, teaching and administrative staff members authorised to use the university email system will be issued an email account (firstname.lastname(at)uni-bamberg.de) upon request. University departments and institutions may also request that task and position-related email accounts be set up: position.institutionalcode(at)uni-bamberg.de.
All email accounts are based on Microsoft Exchange 2016. In addition to basic functions for sending, receiving and managing email, Exchange can be used with “Outlook” to utilise groupware functions and server-supported calendars, task lists, address books, etc.
You can use email programs like Outlook and Thunderbird, as well as web browsers like Internet-Explorer or Firefox to access your email account. All functions are available from any computer with an internet connection by using web-based access via the Outlook WebAPP (OWA). The user interface is very similar to that of Outlook and will therefore be familiar to Outlook users. OWA and interface language options can be found at mailex.uni-bamberg.de.
