The University of Bamberg's data network connects more than 50 locations distributed throughout the city of Bamberg. It provides access to the central data services operated by the university itself, access to the Internet and access to online services provided by third parties. The data network is also used for telephony (Voice over IP).
VPN
If you want to access data services from the Internet that require encrypted data transmission and are only accessible from the University's data network, you will need a VPN connection.

Wireless LAN
You can connect to the data network via WLAN with your own (mobile) device.

IP Addresses
Each device needs an IP address to communicate on the data network. If you need a fixed IP address to run your own data service, contact IT-Services.

Firewall
The IT-Service operates a firewall to filter data traffic between the Internet and the University's data network.

Name Server
The DNS servers in the IT-Service are responsible for resolving server names into IP addresses.
