Data Network, Wireless Internet, VPN
The University of Bamberg’s data network provides a connection between over 40 university locations around the city. This network allows for access to university-run, central data services and to the internet, as well as access to third-party web content. Additionally, the data network is used to operate the entire telephone system (voice over IP).
VPN
For security reasons, certain data services may only be accessed from the university’s data network. If you try to connect to these services from the internet (i.e. from home), you will be denied access.
These include:
- the file server
- Typo3
- university intranet
- electronic libraries
- CD-ROM databases
- online databases
- telephone system web portals
In order to access and use these services from the internet, you must set up a "virtual private network" (VPN).
The IT-Service recommends using the Windows standard application and for all other operating systems the actual version of the software "FortiClient"!
