Brief description

The Survey Statistics and Data Analysis programme focuses on the analysis of quantitative processes that have become central in the era of Big Data. Many fascinating research questions across a wide range of disciplines can be addressed using modern statistical methods. As a result, the demand for well-trained statisticians continues to grow.

This programme therefore provides students with the latest tools in data analysis for modelling and prediction. In addition to classical methods of survey statistics, such as sampling theory and questionnaire design, students gain insights into the most recent developments in the field — for example, the use of alternative data sources such as geo-data and the application of machine learning methods. Emphasis is placed both on practical applications and on a solid understanding of the underlying theoretical foundations.

The Master’s programme in Survey Statistics and Data Analysis builds on undergraduate studies in the social sciences, economics, or psychology, as well as in mathematics, statistics, or computer science. However, it is also open to applicants from other disciplines who possess sufficient quantitative and methodological knowledge.
