Immigrant Integration, Social Trust and Political Support: The Role of Immigration Policies.
Stephan’s dissertation deals with the question how immigration policies affect the behaviour and attitudes of immigrants and non-immigrants. More specifically, he examines to what extend the selection of immigrants at the national borders affects their economic, political and social integration outcomes in the host country. Furthermore, he is interested how the perception of immigration governance affects the political behaviour and attitudes of citizens in general. Not only since the last two years it has become clear that the way governments deal with immigration affects citizens’ confidence in political institutions, politicians and parties. Conducting experimental and non-experimental research Stephan engages with the question to what extend the perception of immigration policies affect citizens political behaviour and attitudes and what factors mediate this relationship.
