TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPS
The Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences currently offers two types of memberships for students who wish to pursue doctoral studies and one type of membership for postdoctoral researchers:
01. REGULAR MEMBERSHIP
The Graduate School offers a versatile programme to create a supportive research environment in order to assist doctoral students throughout their learning and working process.
Current doctoral students are funded either by BAGSS or by an external institution (e.g. bodies funding doctoral studies based on academic excellence).
You can find all necessary information concerning the doctoral membership if you click on the links below.

02. ASSOCIATED MEMBERSHIP
Prospective associate doctoral students (i.e. self-funded, e.g. by a position as a research assistant at the University of Bamberg or other local research institutes) are usually already enrolled as doctoral candidates at the University of Bamberg. They may, for example, be employed as lecturers or researchers, work on their thesis part-time or receive a scholarship from another institution but do not receive funding from BAGSS. Candidates need to have found a supervisor from the BAGSS faculty when applying for an associate membership.

02. ASSOCIATED POSTDOCTORAL MEMBERSHIP
Prospective associated postdoctoral students are usually self-funded, e.g. by a position as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bamberg or other local research institutes. They may, for example, be employed as lecturers or researchers, or receive a scholarship from another institution but do not receive funding from BAGSS. However, they can benefit from the provided programme and infrastructure at the Graduate School, and participate in the mentoring programme. An associated postdoctoral membership will be granted for the duration of three years and can be extended on request.
