Radicalisation and Recruitment: An Agent-based Model Approach (working title)

By means of qualitative/quantitative analyses and an agent-based model, my PhD project strives to understand en detail emotional bonding during radicalisation of potential Islamic terrorists, as previous research do not cover emotions in the process of violent behaviour accordingly. The project questions the alleged basic roots for radicalisation of individuals. Why people become radicalised to commit violent acts to spread terror and fear in favour of their goals, while other people do not?

Given research results about living conditions of suspects, fully edged terrorists and those, who know them as their childhood friend, brother, son have not reached to answer the question completely, how and when the step to violence and murder is performed.

Aside of same living condition, socioeconomic background and cultural environment, the author strives to approach by focusing on terrorist recruitment methods of today and the socio-economic aspects of radicalisation to find answers of how to break the cycle of violence.
