Our Country Morocco

The Saharan Kingdom of Morocco, which was influenced by both, Berber and Arabic culture, can be considered unique in many ways. It is the only African State which borders with Europe as well as the only state of the African continent not to be member of the African Union. Furthermore, Morocco is on its way from a developing country to a newly industrializing country with its focus in the energy and service sector. Its port Tangier Med is central transfer point for European goods and grew in its significance to the Door to Africa. The development of renewable energies continues to advance though support of the European Union. The countrys phosphor resources are of central importance for the world market. These, however, are situated within the Western Sahara, which status is still discussed over. Within the United Nations Marocco plays an important role through its involvement in peacekeeping missions. In 2012/13 it occupies a non-permanent seat of the Security Council and therefore, is able to exert influence on important questions of worldwide security policy. Considering these opportunities and challenges it is our pleasure to represent the Kingdom of Morocco at the NMUN conference in New York.
