Diversity through Teaching

Open-mindedness, tolerance, appreciation for diversity, and fostering a respectful environment for and with each other. These are values that the University of Bamberg is committed to – in teaching, studying, research, work, and university life. Instructors and their attitudes toward acknowledging students’ individual circumstances and needs significantly contribute to a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.

Slides for Promoting Diversity and Inclusion through Teaching

On the VC “LEHRE” of the Centre for University Teaching, a set of slides provides some recommendations for instructors on how to appropriately address students’ diversity at the beginning of the semester. Designed by the team “BAS!S 2.0 – Basiskompetenzen Inklusion” at the Bamberg Centre for Teacher Training, the slides contain useful tips on reducing barriers and implementing (digital) accessibility when designing course materials. Additionally, the slides list further information and relevant support services available at the University of Bamberg for students and instructors alike.

Promoting diversity through teaching in an all-encompassing manner means incorporating the various dimensions of diversity and their intersectionality in all stages of developing a course.
