Prof. Dr. Frank Wimmer

The academic career of Prof. Dr. Frank Wimmer began with the study of Business Administration at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, which he completed in 1969 with a degree as Diplom-Kaufmann. During his studies, he already focused on marketing, market research, and consumer research.

In 1975, he received his doctoral degree (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with a dissertation entitled “The Consumer’s Quality Judgment.” In the following years, he worked there as a research associate and completed his habilitation in 1983, after which he was appointed Privatdozent.

Following teaching and visiting appointments, including at the University of Hanover, he was appointed to the Chair of Business Administration, especially Marketing (Absatzwirtschaft), at the University of Bamberg in 1985.

From 1985 until his retirement in 2009, he held this chair.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Prof. Wimmer was actively involved in academic self-governance, serving, among other roles, as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration and as International Affairs Officer of the faculty.

Even after his retirement in 2009, he remained active in teaching at the University of Bamberg until 2023, particularly with courses on ecological and ethical issues in marketing as well as sustainability and responsibility in management.
