I AM A LIVELY URBAN SOCIOLOGIST.

AN INTERVIEW WITH SOFIA PAGLIARIN

▐  The Graduate School's visiting fellow Sofia Pagliarin gave us a little introductory interview describing her research interests and academic career so far.

   In her own words...

   S.P.I am a lively urban sociologist interested in cities and regions' environment and planning, and in qualitative and comparative research methods. I have obtained my double doctoral degree in urban studies from Bicocca University of Milan (Italy) and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) in 2014. Between 2016 and 2017 I worked as a post-doc researcher within the CONCUR project at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) near Zurich. I am now a visiting post-doctoral researcher at the Chair of Governance of Innovative and Complex Technological Systems at University of Bamberg (Germany). Before working in academia, I worked as an employee in logistics and customer service in different companies in Italy and Spain.

My main research interests are urban studies, landscape transformations and urban sprawl, strategic spatial planning, (urban) tourism studies, and qualitative and set-theoretic comparative methods for the social sciences. My latest publication is titled "Linking processes and patterns: Spatial planning, governance and urban sprawl in the Barcelona and Milan metropolitan regions". ◼
