Access to the university research infrastructure

The Bamberg University Library is one of the largest libraries in Bavaria with about 1.6 million media units. It consists of six branch libraries, all of which have desks with internet access (fixed network or WIFI). In addition, group study rooms can be booked in some of the branch libraries. The opening hours are very visitor friendly, some branches are open until midnight, one is even open around the clock.

International researchers employed at the University of Bamberg (e.g. as research assistants) and international doctoral students who are enrolled at the University of Bamberg receive a service staff card or a student ID card at the beginning of their contract or studies. The service card or the student ID card gives access to all services of the Bamberg University Library (online ordering, taking our books, interlibrary loan, E-journals etc.).

International researchers and international doctoral candidates who are neither employed nor enrolled in Bamberg can obtain a library card for guests. Please contact the Welcome Center.

Employees of the university and enrolled doctoral students are given access to the services of the computing centre (access to the university's data network, university e-mail address, etc.) when they start work or study. Employees of the university are also usually provided with an office computer. If you will only be employed for a few months, it might be possible to borrow a computer. The Welcome Center will be happy to help you and your host with this.

International researchers and international doctoral students who are neither employed nor enrolled in Bamberg can be granted limited guest access to the services of the computing center. Please contact the Welcome Center.

The student union (Studentenwerk) runs canteens and cafeterias for the University of Bamberg at various locations. They are open to all employees, students and guests of the university. Of the two canteens, one is located in the city centre (Austraße) and the other in Feldkirchenstraße. There are also three cafeterias (Austraße, Feldkirchenstraße and ERBA campus). At all locations you can pay with cash as well as cashless. A surcharge is charged for cash payments. For cashless payment, both the service card and the student ID card can be topped up with cash at machines located in the entrance area of the canteens and cafeterias.

International researchers and international doctoral students who do not have a service card or student ID card can obtain a guest card for cashless use of the canteens and cafeterias. Please contact the Welcome Center.
