Playing Connect Four against a robot at OpenLab
On January 28, 2026, the Multimodal Intelligent Interaction group opened its robotics lab at GU13 to visitors. Its Connect Four demo complemented the OpenLab program of the neighboring Computer Graphics Lab.
Visitors played on a physical board against a robot arm, which placed the pieces selected by the game software. A camera was used to capture the board state. An expressive robot head beside the board provided spoken commentary during the game.
Lidia Fargueta Pelufo from the MII team ran the demonstration together with Prof. Dr. Markus Rickert. She had contributed to its development alongside Matthias Schmidt.
