Official Reading and Topic Lists for the 1st State Examination

The lists below contain subject areas and literature suggestions that have been agreed among the Bavarian state examination examiners of Romance languages and are thus shared by all colleagues. Regular revisions are silently incorporated, but are reflected in the dates of the individual PDFs. The version you download here is always the most up-to-date.

The knowledge base for the successful completion of the state examinations in linguistics should first and foremost be the studies you have completed; experience has shown that superficial knowledge acquired at the last moment only leads to mediocre grades. The bibliographical references serve as an orientation for the repetition of the material, not as a canon to be learned by heart. On the one hand, you do not necessarily have to "learn" the entire list and, on the other hand, it is also quite conceivable to pass the exam successfully on a completely different literature basis.

In addition to the topic and literature lists, you should also thoroughly read the official text on the nature of the state examination, which the Bavarian state examiners have adopted. This will help you avoid misunderstandings when answering the analysis tasks.
