Digital Heritage

The digital heritage research activities aim at developing information technologies which assist scholars in the humanities. The software solutions serve a broad range of applications in the digital humanities. They include, for instance, virtual reconstructions of built heritage as well as federation platforms for multimedia research data.

Researchers at ZIAI focus on both, the documentary heritage in text form as well as the non-textual, material heritage. This double perspective constitutes an overarching principle which facilitates the transfer of technical solutions.

A number of disciplines contribute their application scenarios, among others, linguistics, historical geography and built heritage conservation. The computational approaches frequently make use of methods from semantic information processing and information retrieval.
