Development of the OPEN vhb Course "Social Clever Competences"
About the project:
Are social networks addictive? Not if they’re used wisely. Since early November 2019, OPEN vhb’s free online self-study course “Social-Clever-Kompetenzen” has been teaching key skills for digital life and work. The course answers questions like these: Do I have to be active on Instagram just because it’s trendy right now? Should I set up a WhatsApp group chat and thus increase the number of messages I receive every day? Do my social media activities actually benefit me, aside from causing stress and distraction? Participants learn how to consciously choose the right channel, use social media smartly to organize their daily lives and careers, produce text, images, and videos efficiently and creatively, and manage conversations.
The course is based on a self-developed Social Clever Competency Model (SoCleKo 16x5) and, with its modular structure, offers engaging content and a fun learning experience across 16 chapters, each divided into 5 levels, for social media beginners, intermediate users, and near-professionals.
Participants can work through the entire course from Chapter 1 to 16 or simply select and complete the chapters that are relevant to them. Tradespeople, small businesses, law firms, social enterprises, and associations can quickly put the practical know-how into action. For those who want to use WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms systematically and efficiently, the course offers significant added value in a short amount of time. The mix of theory, case studies, interactions, and exercises is scientifically grounded and—upon completion—leads to a certificate of completion.
From a pedagogical perspective, the course focuses on various key factors for learning success identified by John Hattie (Visible Learning). These include, among others, self-assessment of one’s own performance level, microteaching, feedback, fostering creativity, direct instruction and case studies.
