From 8 to 9 December 2025, the DBU conference Preserving Heritage, Securing the Future – New Approaches to Climate Adaptation took place in Berlin. The KDwt's Professorship of Materials and Preservation Science co-organised the event, moderated a section and participated with its own presentation (and delivered two additional presentations due to illness-related absences).

The results of Prof. Dr. Christoph Merzenich's "fresco course" at the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt have once again been fantastic!

The Professorship for Materials and Preservaion Science held an application week entitled ‘3D Object Capture in Restoration Science’ at the Diocesan Museum in Bamberg. Students had the opportunity to try out various scanning techniques. Many thanks to the museum for hosting us.

As part of the application week ‘Practical work on the renovation of half-timbered buildings’, students of the Master’s programme in Heritage Conservation visited the German Half-Timbered House Centre in Quedlinburg. Many thanks to the dedicated director and the entire team for the exciting insight into the practical work involved in half-timbered construction.

In May 2025, the Professorship of Materials and Preservaion Science at the KDWT at the University of Bamberg took part in International Museum Day. Methods and procedures were demonstrated at several stations in the Diocesan Museum in Bamberg. Here you can see the multispectral imaging station, where a reduced setup was presented on a painting from the museum.

On 9 April 2025, employees of the KDwt visited the exhibition "1000 years ago | Life at the court of Cunegonde and Henry II" at the Historical Museum in Bamberg.

Sample panel for our light protection project. The panels were developed and produced by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation and can now be found at many locations in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.

In February 2025, the first joint doctoral colloquium of the Professorship of Preventive Conservation in the Conservation of Historic Buildings and the Professorship of Materials and Preservation Science took place.
Many thanks to our colleagues at the BLfD for allowing us to be guests at Seehof Castle.
