First prototype of the IMMUNOVERSE: The virtual space presents games and science communication formats and will facilitate encounters, participation, and exchange in a digital environment.

First Prototype of the IMMUNOVERSE Presented at the CASCAID Retreat on 10 July 2026

As part of the first retreat of the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1755 CASCAID, we launched the first prototype of the IMMUNOVERSE and explored it together with the principal investigators and doctoral researchers of the Collaborative Research Centre.

The IMMUNOVERSE is designed as a social virtual space for science communication. It presents the various games and communication formats developed within the project and serves as a shared digital access point to CASCAID’s research. Visitors can move through the virtual environment, discover the projects, and learn about the immune system, chronic inflammatory diseases, and novel therapeutic approaches in a playful way.

At the same time, the IMMUNOVERSE aims to create new opportunities for participation and exchange. In the future, researchers, patients, and other interested parties will be able to meet online, discuss research topics, and participate in virtual events. The platform therefore combines playful knowledge communication with social interaction, scientific curiosity, and participation.

As the next steps, we plan to create additional virtual spaces and expand the IMMUNOVERSE with narrative elements. Through storytelling, the scientific content will be connected more closely, made more emotionally accessible, and embedded in interactive experiences.

The project “IMMUNOVERSE – Designing and Evaluating a Metaversal Playground for Science Communication”is part of the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1755 CASCAID. Its objective is to develop and scientifically evaluate digital learning games and immersive communication formats that make complex medical topics understandable and accessible.
