Professor Dr. Alexander Fliaster

Professor Dr. Alexander Fliaster received his diploma in engineering (system technology) in Moscow (Russia) and passed the state examination as a translator for Japanese and Russian languages. He obtained his Ph.D. in management (summa cum laude) and his Habilitation (venia legendi) in management from the University of the German Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) in Munich (Germany).

Since 2011, he is serving as Chair and Full Professor in Innovation Management at the University of Bamberg, Germany. Formerly, he had served as an Assistant Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation in Moscow, as Chair and Full Professor in HRM and Organization Studies at the WHL Graduate School of Business and Economics, as well as an Interim Chair and Professor in HRM and Organization Studies at the University of Bamberg and at the University of Bundeswehr in Munich.

Alexander Fliaster is visiting professor in various international Master and MBA programs in leading business schools worldwide, e.g. at the Toulouse Business School (France), the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (Russia).

In recent years, Professor Fliaster has also designed and delivered a large number of executive development programs in innovation, knowledge management and change management for major European technology and service companies in Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Spain. He also taught master-classes and made invited presentations at international conferences for business professionals, such as the CIPD HRD Conference in London and the International SAP Conference for Portfolio and Project Management in Düsseldorf. Furthermore, Professor Fliaster delivered numerous presentations for leading companies in various industries, such as the Bank of America Merrill Lynch in the USA, Robert Bosch GmbH in Germany, Fiat in Italy and others.

Since 2001, Professor Fliaster has been Visiting Research Fellow and Affiliated Member of the INSEAD Centre for Advanced Learning Technologies (Fontainebleau, France). Since 2015, he serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Research Center on Business Models in the Digital World, a joint venture of the University of Bamberg and the Fraunhofer Society.

Professor Fliaster's research has received substantial external funds from the European Community under the 6th and the 7th Research Framework Programs. In particular, he has served as a member of the Steering Committees of the EC-funded international research projects "Learning to Collaborate" (2006-2008) and “Learning for Security (2009-2011) that deal with the development of advanced management simulations on collaboration management and organizational crisis management.

The themes of Professor Fliaster’s most recent research cover the impact of networks on collaborative knowledge processes and innovation as well as the stakeholder networks and ecosystems for digital innovations. Prof. Fliaster's research papers have been published in academic journals such as R&D Management, Human Relations, Management International Review, Schmalenbach Business Review, Journal of Business Strategy, Journal of Change Management, and Knowledge Management Research & Practice as well as in practice-oriented outlets such as People Management and HMD Praxis der Wirtschaftsinformatik. Some of his book contributions and articles have appeared in India, Taiwan, Japan, and Russia.
