Travel to Bamberg
The Frankfurt/Main international airport is a convenient good arrival destination. The railway station Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof (long distance railway station) is located below Terminal 1 and here you can find rail connection information and a booking office. Generally, trains to Bamberg (with a transfer in Würzburg) leave this station every half hour. The journey takes between two and three hours.
If you fly to the Munich international airport, there is a local commuter train (S-Bahn) and bus access in Terminals 1 and 2: trains and buses leave every 10 minutes for Munich’s central railway station (Hauptbahnhof), and this journey takes about 40 minutes. From the central station there is a regular rail connection to Bamberg (either direct, or with a transfer in Nuremberg). The journey from the airport to Bamberg takes between two and three hours altogether.
When flying to the Nuremberg international airport: there is a regular underground (U-Bahn) connection from the airport to Nuremberg’s central railway station (line 2; approximately 10 minutes). From here there are multiple direct connections to Bamberg every hour. The journey from the airport to Bamberg takes about one hour altogether.
It is best to make rail travel plans individually using the Deutsche Bahn’s (German rail service) online services (available in English). Please indicate "Bamberg" as your destination. You can purchase low-priced tickets in advance, using these online services. You must print the tickets out yourself.
Bamberg can be reached from any direction via the German motorway network. The A70 provides access from the east and west and is connected to the A3 (Cologne-Passau). The A73 provides access from the north and south and is connected to the A7 (Flensburg-Füssen) and the A9 (Berlin-Munich).
