Bio

Lakshmi Nair is a student assistant in the Data Engineering group at the University of Bamberg, where she is completing her master's degree in International Software Systems Science. She works in the project Buffers with Benefits (SPP 2377) on integrating processing-in-memory hardware (UPMEM) into database query execution, benchmarking multi-DPU query workloads and analysing when PIM hardware outperforms the CPU. In her master's thesis, she implemented forward-mode and reverse-mode automatic differentiation as native SQL functions in DuckDB. Before her master's studies, she worked for four years as an Oracle database administrator at Wipro, gaining hands-on experience with Oracle and other database systems, Linux administration and infrastructure automation. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.
