New Editorial and Program Committee Appointments (MICCAI 2026, IJCAI/ECAI 2026, Pattern Recognition)

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Christian Ledig has been appointed to several key leadership roles within the international research community. These appointments reflect the chair’s ongoing commitment to advancing the fields of artificial intelligence, medical imaging, and pattern recognition.

Area Chair Appointments for MICCAI and IJCAI/ECAI 2026

Prof. Ledig will serve as an Area Chair for two of the most prestigious conferences in the field:

  • MICCAI 2026: The 29th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention will be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. As the premier global venue for medical imaging, MICCAI maintains a rigorous selection process, and the role of Area Chair is vital in shepherding the high-quality research that defines the future of clinical technology.

  • IJCAI/ECAI 2026: The International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (joined with the European Conference on AI) will take place in Bremen, Germany. Established in 1969, IJCAI is widely regarded as a leading global forum for AI research (A*, CORE). Serving as Area Chair involves overseeing the peer-review process for a high volume of submissions, ensuring the conference continues to showcase groundbreaking advancements in the AI community.

Associate Editor for Pattern Recognition (Elsevier)

In addition to these conference roles, Prof. Ledig has been appointed Associate Editor for the journal Pattern Recognition, published by Elsevier.

Established in 1968, Pattern Recognition is a flagship journal (Q1) in the discipline. It currently holds a significant Impact Factor of 7.6 (Citescore 15.8) and is ranked among the top publications worldwide in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. In this editorial capacity, Prof. Ledig will contribute to the strategic direction of the journal and manage the peer-review process for original research in machine learning and automated pattern analysis.

A Reflection of International Standing

Collectively, these roles represent substantial recognition within the academic community. Both MICCAI and IJCAI are considered "A*" or "Level 1" targets for researchers, and an editorial role at Pattern Recognition is a key responsibility in maintaining the integrity of the field’s literature. We look forward to the contributions these appointments will bring to the chair’s research visibility and global collaborations.
