Formal and Admission Requirements

The formal admission requirement is a general university entrance qualification or a subject-specific university entrance qualification. Admission to the Master’s program in Sociology requires a university degree with an overall grade of at least 2.5, or an equivalent local or foreign degree, in which students must demonstrate completion of modules totaling at least 30 ECTS credits in the field of sociology.

Of these, the following must be included:
1. Modules in the field of Sociological Theory totaling at least 10 ECTS credits
2. Modules in the field of Quantitative Social Research totaling at least 10 ECTS credits

Should you not yet have your certificate for your completed Bachelor degree programme, you may commence your studies prior to providing evidence of the admission requirements. The admission requirements must be evidenced by the end of the second subject semester. In this case, admission is granted on a provisional basis only. Enrolment is granted for a limited period of two semesters. The time limitation is removed ex officio upon provision of evidence of the admission requirements. Should evidence of the admission requirements not be provided within the deadline, the student will be withdrawn from the Master's programme. The acquisition of individual examination achievements is made subject to the final provision of evidence of the admission requirements.

The Master's programme in Sociology is admission-free. An application is, however, compulsory. Enrolment is carried out through the Student Office (Studierendenkanzlei) of the University of Bamberg. The current enrolment deadlines can be found on the Student Office website.

Please also note the following information: The Master's program MSSR is an English language programme. However, some courses of other institutes in the elective area E: Interdisciplinary Specialisation are offered in German.
