Prof Dr Alexander Bergmann-Gering

Prof Alexander Bergmann-Gering obtained his teaching qualification for secondary schools in biology and ethics/philosophy in Leipzig and has been a research associate in the Biology Didactics Research Group at the University of Leipzig since 2014, as well as the programme coordinator for biology at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Leipzig since 2019.

In 2020, he was promoted to the degree of Dr. rer. nat. in biology education by the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Leipzig, with a doctoral thesis entitled ‘Promoting interest in mathematics and the natural sciences through specialised teaching – a theory-based evaluation of a school trial in Thuringia at lower secondary stage’. 

Following periods as a visiting or acting professor at the Austrian Centre of Excellence for Biology Education at the University of Vienna (2022) and the Department of Biology Education at the University of Kassel (2023), he has been Professor of Science Education at the Faculty of Human Sciences at Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg since March 2026.

During the lecture-free period, appointments are arranged on an individual basis following prior registration by email.

• Testing and evaluating approaches to developing digital teaching skills and fostering subject-specific interests in lower secondary education
