Dr. rer. nat. Thomas Zacher completed vocational training as an aircraft engine mechanic at Deutsche Lufthansa AG. He subsequently studied physics with a focus on solid-state physics at the University of Hamburg and was awarded the degree of Dr. rer. nat. at the Technical University of Munich as part of an industry-based doctoral project. His dissertation focused on the characterisation of thin biosensor layers using evanescent fields.
After positions in research and development at BioTuL AG, Glaucus Proteomics B.V. and Alopex GmbH, he has worked for Hamilton Robotics and Hamilton Germany for more than 18 years in various specialist and leadership roles. There, his responsibilities include the development of automated laboratory solutions for biomedical, molecular biology and biotechnological applications, as well as the management of international project and application teams.
Since 2024, he has been a lecturer in physics in the field of science education at Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg. In his courses, he combines fundamental concepts in physics with practice-oriented experiments and teaches future teachers the importance of scientific ways of thinking and working for modern physics education.
