BFC-B-08: Case Studies in International Management

Course Description
International Management considers the practice of management across different nations and cultures. The influence of different political, economic, social, legal, and technological environments on the management functions (planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling) and management effectiveness are studied in this course. The requirements and problems of adapting the Western approach to management in foreign cultures and, conversely, adapting foreign approaches to Western businesses will be basic to the course. Also included will be an exploration of management practices worldwide as well as an examination of current issues and special topics.
The course is taught jointly by the University of Bamberg and Appalachian State University (Boone, North Carolina, USA) as a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course.

Registration & Scheduling
Application for the course consists of two steps: (1) apply by email to bwl-bfc(at)uni-bamberg.de, adding a short motivation to your application, and (2) register for the course ("Lehrveranstaltung") in FlexNow. Both steps must be completed by Sunday, October 4, 2026, 23:59h.
The number of students to be admitted to the class is limited. Access will be granted following the principles of the University of Bamberg. Information about the enrolment will be communicated by email shortly after the end of the application period. Applications after the deadline are still welcome, but a subsequent consideration cannot be guaranteed.
Registration and de-registration for the exam ("Prüfung"): Students who are admitted to the course are registered for the exam in FlexNow by the chair; the acceptance email confirms the registration. No further action is required on your part. If you decide not to take part, you can de-register from the exam yourself in FlexNow until Monday, October 12, 2026, 23:59h. In the case of any registration problems, please contact bwl-bfc(at)uni-bamberg.de before the deadline.
