Information on the preparation of a Bachelor or a Master thesis

Topics

The topics assigned are on economics, especially macroeconomic theory and applied macroeconomics. Topics on reasons and mechanisms of macroeconomic instability are particularly welcome. There is no pre-assembled list of topics, which means that own proposals on topics within the above mentioned field are most welcome. Mostly we agree on literature reviews, however in some cases also empirical papers can be permitted. Generally, the issue of the topic and its final specification will be done with registration, which means at the begin of the time limit.

Time frame and limit

It is recommended to get in touch with the professorship approx. 4 to 6 weeks before the working time begins. Within this time please make an appointment with the professor in order to have a first discussion of possible topics regarding relevance and feasability. After getting familiar with the topic it is recommended to make another appointment with the supervisor of the thesis in order to present the preliminary working plan and structure of the paper. After successful agreement on the work schedule, i. e. acceptance by the professorship, follows the specification of the title as well as the registration of the thesis at the examination office.

Restrictions

In order to write your bachelor or master thesis at our professorship you should at least have been attending and passing two of our lectures or seminars. The maximum amount of final papers which can be supervised is limited by the capacity of the professorship.

Application

For the application to write your bachelor- or master thesis at our professorship please send us the following documents:

  • detailed curriculum vitae
  • summary of all academic courses so far performed (FlexNow print)
  • statement on professional/academic interests and possible topics for your final paper.

Please send all documents to macrofinance(at)uni-bamberg.de. Please keep in mind that your recommended topics need to be suitable for academic literature surveys, i. e. proposals like "I thought I would like to do something about XYZ [typically a current mass media buzz word]" should not be submitted. However it is useful to check the availability of suitable literature in advance and to discuss this already during the first appointment with the supervisor (also see "time frame and limit").
