Stefanie Ulschmid talks about digital transformation in public administrations at a networking event
This year's BOC networking event under the slogan "Developing public processes. Co-developing digital transformation" brought together representatives from several municipalities in Bamberg to exchange experiences on process management and digital transformation in public administration.
Our research associate Stefanie Ulschmid gave a talk titled “From Digitalization Project to Everyday Practice: Opportunities, Challenges and Lessons from International Comparison”.
She brought a research perspective into the discussion. Her presentation drew on international case studies, including cases from Italy, South Korea, Norway and Iceland. These cases show that digitalization projects seldom fail because of the technology. Whether a digital solution is used in the long run depends on three things: whether the organization starts from how work is actually done, whether a pilot project is turned into a lasting structure, and whether leadership, middle management and operational staff carry the change together.
The informal discussion that followed showed how closely the international cases resemble the experiences of the participants. It also showed how much municipalities can learn from one another when they share their experiences within the network.
Many thanks to the organizers from BOC for the invitation and to all participants for the open discussion!
