Electronic Commerce
Overview
Electronic Commerce refers to the automated purchase and sale of goods and services via the Internet. The module imparts in-depth knowledge of the actors, base technologies, economic foundations, business processes, and information systems in electronic commerce. It is structured into a lecture and an exercise session, within which the lecture material is systematically reinforced.
The goal of the course is to impart the following knowledge and skills:
Knowledge of the actors in electronic commerce
Knowledge and ability to apply the base technologies in electronic commerce
Knowledge of the economic foundations of electronic commerce
Knowledge and ability to design business processes in electronic commerce
Knowledge and ability to design information systems in electronic commerce
Basic knowledge of the structure and architectures of enterprise information systems. This is taught, for example, in the following module:
Development and Operation of Application Systems (IIS-EBAS-B)
The course has a workload of 180 hours and is awarded 6 ECTS credits, which can be earned through a 90-minute written examination.

Lecture
The lecture imparts knowledge about the actors, base technologies, economic foundations, business processes, and information systems in electronic commerce. The course focuses on the following topics:

Business models in electronic commerce
E-Distribution: Electronic sales
E-Procurement: Electronic purchasing
E-Marketplaces: Electronic coordination of supply and demand
E-Communities: Electronic communication
Internal enterprise information systems: Electronic service creation

Exercise
The exercise systematically deepens the knowledge taught in the lecture through exercises, which are worked on by the students in small groups and then discussed in the plenum. The exercise focuses on the following tasks:
- Reproduction tasks to recapitulate the lecture content
- Transfer tasks to apply the knowledge taught
- Complex use cases and case studies
