President of the University of Bamberg

Prof. Dr. Kai Fischbach


Kai Fischbach has been President of the University of Bamberg since October 1, 2020. He was previously Chair of Information Systems and Social Networks at the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science.

After studying mathematics and social sciences, he completed his doctorate at the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, and worked as a research assistant at the University of Cologne and the University of Siegen. He gained experience abroad as a visiting researcher at the Sloan School’s Center for Collective Intelligence at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA), the Department of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC, USA) and the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University (GSU, USA).

 

In Bamberg, he assumed several offices in the university’s self-administration: Among other things, he was Dean of the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences and chair of that faculty’s doctoral committee, Chair of the Senate and Deputy Chair of the University Council. He was also on the Executive Committee of the Centre for Innovative Applications of Computer Science and was a member of the Language Centre’s Academic Advisory Council. He was a liaison instructor at the Bayerische Eliteakademie (Bavarian Elite Academy) and is a board member of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Netzwerkforschung (German Society for Network Studies).
